I am trying to find any information about my grandfather or his family from Lancaster, and connect with any descendents that may be living in the area. My uncle, Charles Andrew Baker, was born in Lancaster, in 1926. The family moved to Galesburg, Illinois between 1926 & 1930, when my father, Orval Lee Baker, was born. I don't know much about grandpa Baker or his family, except that he had at least one brother, James, who lived in the area all of his life. I know that grandpa also had at least two (2) sisters. I don't know any more that that, but, I have always wanted to know more. My dad was in in the U S Army the entire time that I was growing up, so I didn't get to spend as much time with my grandparents, or my uncle, as I would like to have had. | Comments: | Recently, I had my MTDNA analyzed by FamilyTreeDNA. I created a maternal family tree in order to share it people who have DNA similar to mine. I needed to verify the marriage of Sally Sellers to William Elder in order to complete the tree. Lee Dickson, Staff Genealogist for the Garrard City Historical Society was very helpful in this task by his research at the Garrard County Court House. Sally and William married on January 23, 1836 in Garrard County. J. H. Letcher was the County Clerk who did some of the transcribing. He probably used a goose quill to write down the information. I wonder if William Elder was wearing a buckskin outfit at the time of the marriage. James Sellers, Sally’s father, signed a statement approving the marriage of his daughter to William. The library was very helpful, but I did not know you had other resources and the court house was closed. I even looked all over a cow pasture for the Banks Cemetery, but never found it.
